Run in MUNICH – Olympic Park

urbirun Munich – Olympia Park : 9.5km
Park size : 740 acres
Start : Brundageplatz
Public transportation : station de métro Olympiazentrum

Munich’s Olympic Park was created for the 1972 Olympic Games. This magnificent hilly area was made by dumping and regrouping the ruins of the city after the World War II. It is dominated by a 290m high radio and television tower, the Olympia Turm. The park and its buildings are renowned for representing the boldness of post-war architecture, the intellectual freedom and cheerful open-mindedness of West Germany.

Urbirun’s route will take you first to the northern part of the park, the Olympic Village, which covers 80 hectares and can accommodate 12,000 people. Now a residential area, it was also the scene of the dramatic hostage-taking by terrorists during the 1972 Olympic Games.

Of course, you can admire the famous stadium (70,000 seats) with its roof made of stretched glass (which was also the stadium of Bayern Münich until 2005), before walking up the hill to its summit to enjoy the overall view. Then, just before returning to your starting point, you can admire the ultra-modern architecture of BMW Welt, an exhibition center built on the historic site of the famous car manufacturer.

Be prepared to sprint if you come across one (but don’t worry, it’s highly unlikely)…
With its many small lakes, you’ll think you’re in the middle of a forest. But the urbirun itinerary will not fail to show you the essentials, such as the Victory Column, the Rose Garden, the House of World Cultures, and we’re sure you will enjoy the section on the banks of the Spree, which will take you up to the government district with its bold architecture, and of course, the Reichstag.

urbirun Rome – Villa Borghese – 8.4km .gpx route

Park size : 80 hectares

The gardens of the Villa Borghese were designed by Cardinal Borghese to enhance the villa he had built to house his art collection. At the beginning of the 20th century, the government bought the property and handed it over to the city, which turned it into a municipal park open to the public. There are several museums here, including the Galeria Borghese, which contains one of the finest collections in the world, in the original villa. There is also the Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, the Villa Medici and a zoo.
We guide you there from the Piazza del Popolo, and before entering the park, you’ll be offered a short diversions before climbing the hill. Along a quiet side street, you’ll be taken up the Piazza di Spagna famous steps. You’ll then be guided into the park itself, where you’ll start by enjoying a sublime view of the city and St Peter’s Cathedral from the Pincio Terrace. Then you will run the beautiful pathways that lead you from fountains to small lakes, notably the one where the small Temple of Aesculapius stands on an island.
